Passenger traffic at Houston’s airports rose 12.3% in July compared with July 2022.
The details: A total of 4.33 million passengers moved through George Bush Intercontinental Airport in July, up 15.1% from a year earlier. Hobby Airport moved just under 1.3 million passengers during the month, up 3.9% from a year ago.
International traffic through Bush airport alone increased 20% in July while domestic traffic through that facility rose 13.3%. Hobby saw a 6.3% increase in international traffic and a 3.7% domestic increase.
Broader view: Passenger traffic at the two airports was up 14.1% in the seven months of the year compared with the same period in 2022. Bush airport experienced a 16.2% increase in traffic while Hobby traffic rose 7.6% year-over-year. The majority of the year-over-year increases come from a rebound in international traffic. Passengers from abroad are up 25% at Bush airport so far this year.
Among the largest airlines operating out of Houston’s two passenger airports, United Airlines handled 19.3 million passengers so far this year, up 13.8% compared with the same period in 2022. Southwest Airlines handled nearly 8.2 million passengers, up 6.5% year-over-year. All other airlines combined handled 7.2 million travelers, a nearly 25% increase.
