February showed air travel through the Houston Airport System up by 2.3%, or about 4.4 million passengers. Bush Intercontinental Airport carried the growth, welcoming 3.5 million passengers, up 4.1%. In contrast, Hobby Airport showed a 4% downturn, bringing in approximately 894,000 passengers.

Air Traffic – In the Numbers

The Houston Airport System welcomed 3.5 million domestic passengers in February, up about 2.6% over last year. Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) saw almost 2.7 million passengers, up 4.6%, however Hobby Airport lost about 3.3% of total passengers compared to last year, bringing in about 838,000 travelers.

International traffic also showed gains, with the bulk of passenger growth moving through IAH. Bush Intercontinental saw approximately 838,000 passengers, up 2.4%, while Hobby lost about 13% of passengers, dipping to approximately 56,000. In February, about 37% of all international passengers came from Mexico, while Central and South America followed closely behind, making up 35%.

Looking forward, April bookings are up about 9% over last year, according to the most recent OAG data. This is higher than the U.S. average, which is currently showing a 1.6% increase in bookings for April.
