As travelers prepare for their Memorial Day Weekend trips, airlines and AAA are ready to embrace what is expected to be a record-breaking travel period over the upcoming long weekend.  

Taking it to the Skies  

Houston is looking like a destination favorite based on flight searches for the holiday weekend. According to Priceline, the average cost of roundtrip flights ranges from $312 to $440. 

United Airlines, Houston’s largest air carrier, is expecting more than 500,000 people to fly per day during the holiday period, making it the busiest Memorial Day on record. 

In addition, the Transportaion Security Administration (TSA), is also preparing for high passenger volumes and is expecting to screen more than 18 million passengers and crew. This marks a 6.4% checkpoint volume increase compared to the same period in 2023.  

Staying on the Road  

As for on the road, this Memorial Day is expected to have the highest number of Texans traveling since 2000 when AAA first started tracking the holiday travel. Approximately 3.6 million travelers are expected to hit the highways in Texas during this travel period, a 4.2% increase over last year, according to AAA Texas.  

Houston Hotel Searches  

Texas as a whole is proving to be a popular destination choice according to data from Priceline, shared in an article by Travel Pulse 

In Houston, hotel searches are showing a 25% increase compared to Memorial Day 2023. Last year, Memorial Day weekend occupancy was at 62% market-wide with an average daily rate (ADR) of $113.79. 

Points of Interest
