Houston ranks number 13 on this year’s list of “America’s Best Cities” complied by Resonance Consultancy, making it the top-ranked Texas city.
“The 100 cities profiled in this report represent the vanguard of America’s urban renaissance. Each one, in its distinct way, is helping to shape the nation’s trajectory and global position for the remainder of this decade and beyond,” the report stated.
The place-marketing consulting firm ranks cities annually based on numerous qualities including livability, lovability and prosperity.
Under Livability, the company evaluated the perceived quality of the city’s natural and built environments and considered elements as landmarks, housing affordability, green space and the health care system index. The Lovability characteristics included nightlife, restaurants, museums and Instagram posts to name a few. As for prosperity, it considered qualities that are tied to the economy, size of the largest convention center, and the city’s business environment.
Houston “is a coveted hometown for the best and brightest on earth. And beyond,” the report’s authors wrote, adding that “the metro added nearly 200,000 residents last year—second only to New York—pushing the population above 7.5 million.”
The report ranked Houston third for large companies and highlighted Chevron’s headquarters relocating to Houston along with the Port of Houston’s throughput of more than 4 million containers.
Houston’s restaurants ranked fourth overall.
“It’s great to see Houston getting the recognition it deserves. Being named one of America’s Best Cities—and the top city in Texas—just confirms what Houstonians already know: we’re a city that welcomes everyone, supports big ideas, and knows how to get things done. Whether you’re here to build a business, explore our culture, or enjoy some of the best food in the country, Houston has something for you,” Houston Mayor John Whitmire said.
Houston led other Texas cities that also made the list, including Dallas at No. 14 and Austin at No. 15 and San Antonio at #41.
