A number of factors are pushing travel prices higher across the U.S., but some cities are seeing more significant cost hikes than others. Houston is among the cities with the smallest increase in overall travel costs, according to an analysis by Forbes.
Forbes looked at several elements including hotel prices, domestic airfares, food expenses and car rental rates. According to the news outlet: “Inflation continues to have a major impact on the cost of travel, but it’s not hitting all cities equally. Some destinations are increasingly expensive, while others have actually seen average travel costs fall over the past few years.”
Houston ranked fourth among those U.S. destinations that have experienced the lowest travel cost increases over the last five years. While hotel costs grew 4.5% between 2018 and 2023, other travel areas declined including domestic airfare down 14.2%, car rental costs down 3%, and average meal price down 4.4%. “It’s a good time to visit Houston if prices are a top concern,” Forbes writes.
