Travelers flying this summer may have something additional to look forward to besides their travel plans. According to Travel Pulse, air passengers are living in the golden age of cheap flights.

Just this year, the Houston Airport System has handled over 9.1 million passengers, a 3.1% year-over-year increase.

Current data suggests some encouraging trends in airfares for travelers. In March’s inflation report, airfares fell 0.5% and were 7% cheaper compared to this time last year according to Going.com, highlighted in an article by Travel Pulse. When adjusting for inflation, airfare in March was 10% cheaper.

That should help the 58% of American consumers who say they plan to take a leisure trip in the next six months, according to the latest survey from MMGY Global. The travel research group also reports that nearly one-quarter of Americans are also planning a business trip in the next six months.

In 2023, Houston airports broke records with over 60 million people traveling through George Bush Intercontinental and Hobby airports, up 6 million passengers from 2022.
