Air travel in Houston reached 5.13 million passengers in November, up 2.3% compared to November 2023. Hobby Airport made up approximately 1.16 million passengers, down 3.1% year over year, while Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) grew 4.1% to 3.97 million passengers.
Year to date, through November 2024, the Houston Airport System saw over 57.5 million passengers, up 4.7% compared to the same period last year. IAH made up approximately 44.1 million passengers, a 4.5% increase, while Hobby Airport gained 5.5% to almost 13.4 million passengers.
Air Traffic – In the Numbers
Domestic travel reached 4.12 million passengers, a 2.5% gain in November. Bush Intercontinental saw just over 3 million passengers, up 4.5%, while Hobby saw some decline, dipping 2.7% to 1.1 million. United Airlines made up approximately 55% of all domestic passengers through the Houston Airport System in November, accommodating approximately 2.27 million passengers, a 4.8% gain.
International travel saw just over 1 million passengers, up 1.7% compared to last year. While IAH gained 2.7% in international passengers, Hobby showed a 10.3% loss in traffic, accommodating almost 64,000 passengers. United Airlines made up the most significant market share of international travelers at 64%. Though other airlines like Air Canada, Emirates, and VivaAerobús make up a smaller percentage of market share, they are seeing strong year-on-year growth. VivaAerobús, for example, showed a 21.4% gain in passenger traffic, while Emirates gained 10.9% YOY.
