Houston Airport System (HAS) welcomed 5.6 million visitors in June, down 1.4% over last year. Domestic traffic ended the month at 4.2 million, down 1.6%, while international visitors declined 0.5% to 1.2 million.

Year to date, air traffic is down less than 1%, welcoming 30 million passengers at the two airports through June. Domestic traffic is essentially flat, bringing in 23.6 million passengers, while international traffic has lost almost 3% at 6.3 million.

Air Traffic – In the Numbers

In June, United Airlines represented approximately 59% of flights through HAS, with Southwest Airlines taking the second largest share at 21%.

At Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), traffic was flat over last year, accommodating 4.35 million passengers. Of this figure, approximately 3.1 million were domestic flights, up 0.3%, while 1.2 million were international flights, down a marginal 0.2%. When further segmenting traffic out of IAH, international arrivals into the airport rose by 1.6% in June, while domestic arrivals increased by nearly 1%. Conversely, departures from IAH showed an overall drop of nearly 1%, with domestic departures declining 1% and international departures down to flat by 0.1%.

At Hobby Airport, however, passenger traffic is down more significantly, declining 6.5% over last year to approximately 1.2 million. Domestic passengers made up approximately 1.1 million of these flights, down almost 7%, while international passengers made up just over 96,000, down 4% over last year.
