October initiatives connect Houston with travel professionals, media, and business leaders in two important international markets

HOUSTON (October 13, 2026) – Houston First Corporation is advancing efforts to grow international visitation and strengthen global connections through strategic tourism and business initiatives in London and Mexico City this week. Bringing together partners from Houston’s hospitality, cultural, business and sports sectors, the programs will showcase the city’s strengths and build relationships that generate travel, visitor spending and new commercial opportunities.

The initiatives pair a broad delegation to London, October 15–18, with marketing-focused events in Mexico City, October 17–19. Each mission is tailored to its market, connecting Houston with influential travel professionals, journalists, content creators and business leaders who can help expand the city’s international reach.

“Growing international visitation starts with building relationships and giving people compelling reasons to choose Houston,” said Michael Heckman, President and CEO of Houston First Corporation. “These initiatives bring our partners together to showcase the experiences that distinguish our city—from food and culture to space exploration and innovation. By strengthening connections in Mexico and the UK, we’re creating opportunities to bring more visitors to Houston and grow our visitor economy.”

Strengthening Connections in the United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is Houston’s second-largest long-haul origin market, accounting for nearly 104,000 visitors in 2025. Houston First’s four-day London mission will build on that foundation through targeted engagement with travel advisors, media, business organizations and industry stakeholders.
With collaboration from the Greater Houston Partnership, the delegation includes representatives from Houston First, Space Center Houston, The Post Oak Hotel and other hospitality partners. A curated luncheon will introduce influential luxury travel advisors and journalists to Houston’s culinary scene, accommodations, museums, performing arts and diverse cultural experiences.

Meetings with the British Chambers of Commerce and London & Partners will explore opportunities in trade and international business, while allowing delegates to exchange insights on destination marketing and economic development.

The mission coincides with the Houston Texans’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium on October 18. Hospitality events and networking opportunities surrounding the game will provide an additional platform to connect with clients and business leaders and strengthen connections to Houston.

Bringing Houston’s Story to Mexico City
With roughly 2 million visitors to Houston last year, Mexico is by far this region’s largest origin market, accounting for roughly two-thirds of all international visitors. In Mexico City, Houston First will use the city’s space legacy, culinary talent and cultural creativity to deepen media relationships and inspire travel through two complementary events.

InStyle Day by Houston, taking place October 17 at MUNET, is expected to attract hundreds of influencers and personalities with a combined following in the millions. Houston-themed experiences will include an anti-gravity photo opportunity and a Space Center Houston pop-up exhibit featuring artifacts from NASA Johnson Space Center’s archives.

For the first time, the event will stream live on TikTok, extending the experience to audiences who can participate in real time.

An October 19 dinner event will bring together dozens of journalists covering travel, food, aerospace and technology, including representatives from the Mexico editions of Travel + Leisure, Forbes, Food & Wine, InStyle and Robb Report. Chef Emmanuel Chávez of Houston’s Michelin-starred Tatemó will help showcase the city’s culinary talent. Space Center Houston President and CEO William Harris and retired NASA astronaut Megan McArthur will lead a conversation about Houston’s role in space exploration, innovation and the future of human spaceflight.

Together, the London and Mexico City programs support Houston First’s broader strategy to turn international awareness into travel demand and lasting partnerships. By connecting Houston’s distinctive experiences with the people who influence travel and business decisions, the organization aims to expand the city’s global presence and generate economic benefits throughout the region.
