Passenger traffic at Houston’s airports rose 11.5% in June compared with June 2022.

The details: A total of 4.07 million passengers moved through George Bush Intercontinental Airport in June, up 13.9% from a year earlier. Hobby Airport moved 1.24 million passengers during the month, up 4.3% from a year ago.

International traffic through Bush airport increased a dramatic 21.6% in June while domestic traffic through that facility rose 11.3%. Hobby saw a 7% increase in international traffic and a 4% domestic increase.

Broader view: Passenger traffic at the two airports was up 14.4% in the first half of the year compared with the same period in 2022. Bush airport experienced a 16.4% increase in traffic while Hobby rose 8.4% year-over-year. Again, the majority of the year-over-year increases come from a rebound in international traffic.

Among the largest airlines operating out of Houston’s two passenger airports, United Airlines handled 16.2 million passengers so far this year, up nearly 14% compared with the same period in 2022. Southwest Airlines handled 6.8 million passengers, up 7% year-over-year. All other airlines combined handled 6 million travelers, a nearly 26% increase.
