In the second year of the Michelin Guide Texas, Houston restaurants picked up several new recognitions while those local spots that had earned a star in the inaugural guide retained their designations.
The six local restaurants that maintained one star from the French company are: BCN Taste & Tradition, CorkScrew BBQ, Le Jardinier, March, Musaafer, and Tatemó. Another five Houston restaurants received new Bib Gourmand (see below) recognition while nine more were deemed Recommended spots by Michelin.
Statewide the guide recognized a total of 140 restaurants in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio.
Two new San Antonio restaurants received one-star, while Dallas added a single one-starred restaurant. That brings the star tally in the other Texas cities to seven in Austin, three in San Antonio, and two in Dallas.
The ceremony was held October 28 at Wortham Center in Houston.
Michelin awards one, two or three stars for the best restaurants experienced by its inspectors. A single star means a spot offers “high-quality cooking” that’s “worth a stop.” A two-star restaurant is recognized when “the personality and talent of the chef are evident in their expertly crafted dishes” and three stars go to those restaurants with “superlative cooking of chefs at the peak of their profession.” No restaurant in Texas received more than one star in the second-annual awards.
“This year’s Texas selection emphasizes the many talents across your communities who continue to rise above with culinary innovation and passion that is palpable,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide. “We are thrilled to welcome three new restaurants into the Michelin Star family of restaurants, putting them on the map for travelers both near and far to experience. A heartfelt congratulations to all the restaurants and chefs honored in this year’s bustling selection.”
During this year’s ceremony, Elliot Wood, General Manager at Levi Goode’s Credence was awarded the Michelin Guide Texas Service Award. Credence, “a South Texas, ranch-inspired upscale restaurant with a focus on live-fire cooking,” opened in August 2024.
Houston has one of the most dynamic food scenes in the country with more than 12,000 restaurants and is regarded as a top culinary destination.
“In the second year of the Michelin Guide Texas, Houston once again proved it’s a culinary powerhouse with six starred-restaurants and 44 overall recognitions. The exposure that Michelin brings to Houston helps elevate our destination and increase visitation and spending in hospitality,” Houston First President and CEO Michael Heckman said.
