New data indicates that about 62% of Americans are planning a leisure trip in the next six months, down just slightly from this same time last year.
According to the Q4 report from the travel intelligence company MMGY, about 78% of Americans living in households earning $150,000 to $249,000 plan to travel soon, while 77% of those making more than $250,000 are plotting a leisure trip. About 74% of those in households earning between $100,000 and $149,000 have plans to travel. Looking back at Q4 of 2024, about 64% of all respondents surveyed by MMGY then said they were planning to travel.
When examining travel between generations, about 64% of Gen X’s plan to travel soon, down slightly from 66% a year ago. Boomers are up slightly from 64% in 2024 to 65% today. But the group packing its bags the most is the Silent Generation, or those over 80, with about 73% planning a trip in the next six months.
Far fewer Americans plan to travel for business than for pleasure in the next six months—about 35% of those surveyed, up slightly from 33% a year ago. Unsurprisingly, millennials are the group with the biggest business travel plans—a little more than half of that generation say they’ll travel for work soon.
