The Hilton Houston Westchase is undergoing a multimillion-dollar transformation that’s slated for completion in mid-2026.
The project led by Texas based hotel developers American Liberty Hospitality (ALH) and Escalera Capital aims to reimagine the 297-room property with a design that “celebrates the city’s industrial heritage while honoring its natural resources and entrepreneurial spirit,” according to a press release.
Plans call for a complete overhaul of the hotel at 9999 Westheimer, from a reimagined lobby that creates an open, light-filled gathering space to contemporary guest rooms catering to how today’s travelers live and work. The property was originally opened in 1980.
“We are excited to see our investment strategy come alive through the redesign and revival of this great Hilton hotel,” said ALH Principal Nick Massad III.
ALH tapped long-time project partner Portfolio, the Woodlands-based design firm that recently renovated the Embassy Suites Houston Downtown, to lead the project. Portfolio’s Principal, Craig Allen Smith, said the concept honors two sides of Houston’s heritage: the grit of hard-working people with the sophistication of the modern traveler.
Historically, the property has attracted business travelers in the oil and gas industry due to its location near the Energy Corridor, extensive meeting spaces and suites, as well as leisure travelers for long weekends, special events and weddings.
Amy Bentzen Smith, Portfolio’s Partner and Creative Director, said the team turned to earthy colors and natural textures to reflect the influence of the energy industry. “We want to celebrate the positive aspects of the oil industry — how it fuels everything in our lives, whether we realize it or not,” said Bentzen Smith.
The hotel has 260 standard rooms and 37 suites. Guest rooms will feature flexible, moveable worktables to meet the needs of today’s mobile workforce, as well as redesigned bathrooms emphasizing comfort and modern convenience.
The remodel also encompasses the hotel’s meeting and social spaces, long known as a hub for corporate gatherings in West Houston. The 13,000 square feet of meeting space — from intimate breakout rooms to large ballrooms — will feature lighter finishes, brighter palettes, and refreshed layouts. A new 18,000-square-foot “event lawn” is also being added to the property.
