The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo broke ground this month on the largest facility investment in its 95-year history.

In a press release, HLSR formally unveiled “The Farm,” the 1 million-square-foot agricultural complex that is expected to strengthen Houston’s agricultural footprint and tourism economy for years to come.

Located on approximately 350 acres along Highway 288, The Farm will serve as a year-round destination for livestock competitions, horse shows, agricultural education programs and community events.
 
Scheduled to open in 2029, the facility is designed to complement the Rodeo’s annual spring footprint at Reliant Park while significantly expanding its ability to attract visitors, exhibitors and participants from across Texas and beyond.

Rodeo leaders say the project will help advance the organization’s mission of supporting Texas youth, agriculture and Western heritage while creating a modern facility capable of serving the community throughout the year.

“As we move toward our centennial, the groundbreaking of The Farm reflects our commitment to building not only a world-class facility, but a stronger future for Texas youth and agriculture,” said Wesley Sinor, the Rodeo’s chairman of the board. “The impact of what begins today will be felt for generations.”

As a premier equestrian and agricultural venue, The Farm will host major horse shows, livestock events and educational programming on an ongoing basis. 

The increased activity could create additional opportunities for Houston-area restaurants and tourism-related businesses in the immediate area, while further enhancing Houston’s reputation as a leading destination for large-scale events. 

Along with expanding the Rodeo’s educational and agricultural programming, the development is poised to deliver long-term economic benefits by attracting events and visitors that support Houston’s hospitality industry beyond the annual Rodeo season. 

“We can have a livestock show any day during the year. A horse show at the same time,” Sinor said in a previous interview with KPRC 2 News. “There are so many different ways and so many different events. We built it very flexible so we can have all these events all year long instead of just the 20 days we have at Reliant Park.”

The unveiling of The Farm followed another successful year for RodeoHouston in 2026. Across all its activities, the rodeo welcomed more than 2.6 million guests and broke a rodeo record by raising more than $30 million committed for Texas agricultural scholarships and education.
