Houston Airports is celebrating another record-breaking year. According to new data, 63.1 million people traveled through George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) and Hobby airports in 2024, up 3 million passengers from 2023.
Last year, IAH and Hobby airports saw a combined total of 50 million domestic passengers and 13.1 million international passengers.
“These record-breaking numbers signal strong momentum as we prepare to welcome the world for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Houston Airports remains committed to expanding connectivity, enhancing infrastructure and delivering a first-class experience that keeps Houston moving forward,” said Houston Airports Director of Aviation Jim Szczesniak.
Key travel periods like Spring Break, Memorial Day and Thanksgiving contributed to Houston Airports new all-time record.
In December alone, over 5.5 million air passengers flew through Houston airports, up 7.3% compared to December of 2023. Of these, approximately 4.32 million passengers flew out of Bush Intercontinental Airport, while Hobby accommodated over 1.23 million passengers, up almost 1% YOY.
Domestic travel in December logged roughly 4.33 million passengers, up 7% compared to the prior year. Hobby Airport made up over 1.1 million passengers, a 0.3% gain, while Bush Intercontinental (IAH) saw a 9.6% gain in domestic travelers for about 3.2 million passengers. United Airlines continued to hold the largest market share of domestic flights, accounting for 55% of all domestic travelers. International travelers grew 8.4% in the month to 1.2 million passengers. IAH made up over 1.1 million passengers, up 8.3%, while Hobby represented approximately 84,000 international passengers, up 9.1%.
In 2024, Houston Airports not only broke passenger traffic records but also celebrated some major highlights. Key moments include, maintaining the ‘World’s Best Airport Art’ program and the expansion of Terminal D at IAH and the opening of the new International Arrivals Curb.
A recent economic impact study showed Houston Airports generate more than $40 billion for the local economy annually and support more than 207,000 jobs in the region.
