The Ed King Service Award celebrates exceptional individuals within Houston’s hospitality industry who embody the dedication, warmth, and commitment to service that Ed King exemplified throughout his career. Created in his memory, this award will be presented annually by Houston First at the State of the Visitor Economy event, honoring a professional who goes above and beyond to make visitors feel welcome and valued.
Ed King served the city with unparalleled passion, spending over 25 years as a Client Relations Specialist for Houston First and the City of Houston. Known for his warm smile, encouraging words, and dedication to creating memorable experiences, Ed was a mentor, a friend, and a true ambassador for Houston. This award honors his legacy by recognizing others who share his commitment to hospitality.
Eligibility
- The nominee must be a professional in Houston’s hospitality industry, recognized by a supervisor, colleague, or guest for outstanding service.

The award recipient must be available to attend the State of the Visitor Economy event in November 2025 to accept the award.
Nomination Requirements
- Must be employed within the Houston city limits.
- A minimum of two years in the Houston tourism industry.
- Demonstrates exceptional service and dedication to Houston and its visitors.
Nomination Process
To nominate an individual, complete the nomination form and include supporting materials such as a resume, press clippings, visitor feedback, or letters of recommendation. All nominations are due by July 31, 2025.
Selection Criteria
The selection committee, consisting of representatives from Sales, Tourism, Marketing, Client Services, and Operations, evaluates each nomination based on the following criteria:
- Service Excellence (40%)
- Commitment to Hospitality (30%)
- Customer Feedback and Testimonials (30%)
Award Presentation
The Ed King Service Award will be presented annually at the State of the Visitor Economy event in November. The recipient will be notified in advance and celebrated across Houston First's social media channels, newsletter, and through a formal press release.
