March Passenger Traffic Up 14% at Houston Airports

Passenger traffic at all Houston airports rose 14% in March compared with March 2022—a further sign of post-pandemic travel recovery.

The details: A total of 3.9 million passengers moved through George Bush Intercontinental Airport in March, up 15.3% from a year earlier. Hobby Airport moved 1.14 million passengers during the month, up 10% from a year ago.

Bush airport experienced an impressive 28% increase in international traffic during the month as more pandemic-related restrictions have eased abroad.

Broader view: Passenger traffic at the two airports was up 21% in the first three months of this year, compared with the same period a year ago. Bush airport experienced a 23% increase in traffic while Hobby rose 13% year-over-year.

Among the largest airlines operating out of Houston’s two passenger airports, United Airlines handled nearly 2.9 million passengers in March, up 12.7% compared with March 2022. Southwest Airlines handled nearly 1.2 million passengers, up 7.9% year-over-year.
