Houston • Sept. 1, 2020

**MEDIA ADVISORY**

WHAT:                          On Tuesday, September 1, Houston is joining cities from coast to coast and turning

its entertainment venues “red” in support of the live events industry.  The

worldwide pandemic has had a devastating impact on the live events industry.

As operator of the finest city-owned convention and entertainment venues,

which includes Wortham Theater Center, Jesse H. Jones Hall for the Performing

Arts, Miller Outdoor Theatre and the George R. Brown Convention Center,

Houston First Corporation understands firsthand the plight of the estimated 12

million people in the live events and entertainment industry who are currently

unemployed because of COVID-19. The facilities managed by Houston First

house the city’s world-class Opera, Ballet and Symphony, which have all been

                                      hurt by the virus.

In support of the live events industry and to help raise awareness about the

#RedAlertRESTART campaign, Houston First will light up in red all of its

venues, starting Tuesday evening at 9 p.m. until midnight.

Organizer of the nationwide effort, #WeMakeEvents, is a national coalition of

entertainment industry professionals calling on Congress to pass the

RESTART Act which would offer economic relief to those in the Live Events

Industry, many who have not worked since venues were shuttered in March

                                      because of COVID-19.

VISUAL:                       Media and influencers are invited to get pictures of the various local venues lit up

in red and share with their audiences on social media, online, print or broadcast.

The proscenium, stage house, and the hill at Miller Outdoor Theatre will all be

washed in red and display a Red Alert logo. The front of Jones Hall and

Wortham will be washed in red, and also display a Red Alert logo. The front and
