Pamela Summers, a 35-year veteran of the convention and tourism industry, has been hired by VisitHouston as the Director of Tourism Partnerships. She will report to Senior Vice President of Tourism, Jorge Franz.
Summers comes to Houston First after more than 14 years as president of the Bay Area Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau. Previously, she was executive director of the CVB in Granbury, Texas, from 1997-2001.
This is her second go-round with Houston’s CVB. She was director of public affairs and director of special projects for the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau from 1991-1997.
"Pam knows all the players here in Houston so I expect she’ll hit the ground running in her new role with us," said Mike Waterman, president of VisitHouston. "With the busy tourism agenda we face in the next few years it is reassuring to have a professional like Pam who knows the issues and doesn’t require a lot of introductions. We’re glad to have Pam back on board with us."
Jorge Franz, senior vice president of tourism for Houston First and the GHCVB, welcomes Summers as the new director of tourism partnerships.
"Pam has been working with us to build our regional partnership program and will be crucial in building future partnership development with local partners to promote Houston as a leisure destination," Franz said. "Her skills are ideally suited to join our tourism leadership team. She’s a great fit for us."
