Houston Gateway Bridge Project Claims Another Award

The temporary color installations spanning the I-69 bridges have received another award. SWA Group, the firm working with Houston First on the project, received the Honor Award for its efforts In April at American Society of Landscape Architects conference.

You might not know a lot about the Houston Gateway Project, but you've most likely seen it on display. Along nine key downtown bridges, concrete gray has been swallowed up by splashes of color. The temporary installation that provides a bold pop of color celebrating the city’s diversity at nine key downtown bridges along the I-59/69 interstate corridor. The pixelated mosaics were derived from photographs taken by Houston school children for a project by a local artist. This urban infrastructure installation recognizes, the uniquely Houston experience through freeway infrastructure, the diversity of Houstonians, and the future of Houston.
