Houston First Spotlight: True Vines, Inc.

Houston • May 4, 2017

Persons walking through Houston First buildings may notice the beautiful plants that adorn the hallways and offices.  If they do, they are taking note of the work of True Vines, Inc.

True Vines, headquartered in Missouri City, Texas, and owned by Deborah Watts, has been providing plant maintenance services to Houston First since 2011.  True Vines has 10 employees who consider themselves “interiorscapers” – professional horticulturalists who maintain live plants indoors.  True Vines has over 30 years experience in this industry and has public and commercial clients throughout the Houston area.

Watts started True Vines to provide a living for her family, opening the business with one employee. In becoming an expert in the field, she received her license from the Texas Department of Agriculture.
True Vines blossomed after Watts learned about becoming a Women Business Enterprise and Historically Underutilized Business. Her current client base includes the City of Houston, Harris County, Memorial Hermann, Methodist Hospital System, and dozens of privately held corporations such as Baker Hughes. True Vines started doing business initially with the Houston First by providing plants in the George R Brown and now provides plants in Partnership Tower and Hilton Americas-Houston hotel.

Watts also credits the success of the business with the membership that she has with the Women’s Business Enterprise Alliance, a Houston First-recognized certification.

Watts’ advice to emerging businesses is to have a passion for what you do, have fun, and have the expertise in the area of your business. She also strongly suggests that owners find a mentor, lawyer, Certified Public Accountant and banker.

Note: Houston First will periodically shine the light on one of its business partners.
