The 6th Annual Champions of Diversity Awards Ceremony was held on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at the Grand Concourse C of the George R. Brown Convention Center. The event kicked off with a festive Pre-Reception at 6 p.m. The program followed at 7 p.m. with a Post-Reception immediately after the ceremony. The theme of the Awards Ceremony was “Celebrating Economic Recovery, Sustainability, and Resiliency.” Houston First served as a Presenting Sponsor for the fourth year. Mayor Sylvester Turner was the Honorary Chair.
For the past six years, the Champions of Diversity Awards Ceremony has been recognizing prime contractors, as well as Minority, Women, Small, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (MWSDBEs) for their outstanding performances on City of Houston contracts.
Houston First Corporation(HFC) honored Cheryl Ross-Josey with the inaugural HFC Diversity Advocate of the Year Award during The City of Houston's Office of Business Opportunity(OBO) Champions of Diversity Awards Ceremony. Cheryl has been instrumental in building and implementing Houston First's Diversity Program. She has been successful with monitoring prime contractors utilization of historically underutilized businesses, creating diversity reports, and representing HFC in the community. Cheryl has always gone above and beyond when asked to perform her duties especially when assisting small businesses in understanding how to do business with Houston First. HFC has collaborated with the City of Houston OBO for the past five years in recognizing individuals, corporations, and community organizations for their outstanding work with historically underutilized businesses.
