Helping our Neighbors in Need

Houston • May 24, 2018

When you stand behind the George R. Brown Convention Center you cannot help but notice Houston’s Homeless across I69. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) we have approximately 5,351 homeless persons in our area. Many of our homeless population sleep on the streets or in our local shelters downtown. One of the shelters that is near the GRB is the Star of Hope. This shelter began its mission of helping homeless men, women and children on July 1, 1907.

The George R. Brown is a partner of the Star of Hope Mission. Each month the George R. Brown donates food to the Star of Hope after each event hosted at the GRB. Within the last 12 months, the GRB has donated over 20 tons of food to help feed Houston’s Homeless population.

The George R. Brown Convention Center believes that being sustainable is helping those that are in need. They will continue to partner with the Star of Hope to bring hope to the homeless through food donations.
