HOUSTON, Texas (July 19, 2021) Listed as a top 10 market with a hotel occupancy increase of nearly 60 percent, Houston is celebrating another milestone as it has been named a top 5 convention city in the United States by the 2021 Convention Cities Index (CCi) List.
CCi is an online resource guide for planners to compare crucial variables of all the major convention cities to assist in narrowing down the best options to host their events. Each city was assessed across six weighted categories, including total exhibit space, number of hotel rooms within a 15-minute walk of the convention center, average hotel cost, travel time to the nearest international airport, the city’s safety level for travelers, and the city’s “lift” as defined by the number of direct flights to the destination monthly.
Houston is currently preparing for a record-breaking six-month stretch of 16 citywide conventions for the second half of 2021. To date, the city has successfully rebooked 92 percent of all citywide events that were cancelled last year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
